At the very beginning of our introduction to hospice, Gina—along with another kind lady whose name I sadly can’t recall—took the time to explain everything thoroughly. They were both so informative, gentle, and comforting. Their kindness helped me feel at ease right away, and I knew then that we were in good hands.
Elvira, the social worker, came out to visit us. She was very nice, and much of her attention was focused on my dad, which I appreciated deeply. Then Daniel, the chaplain, came into the picture. He was so in tune with my dad and quickly picked up on what made him light up—Disney. My dad loved everything Disney, and Daniel engaged him in conversations about Disney characters and stories. It meant the world to see my dad light up in those moments.
Jennifer, our nurse, was absolutely wonderful. She always walked in with a bright smile and cheerful spirit, which lifted my dad’s mood every time. That smile meant more than words can say.
Then there was Josefina—what a gem. My dad was fiercely independent. He didn’t want help from anyone, not even for a simple shave. But Josefina had the perfect mix of charm and determination. She stood her ground in the most loving way and eventually won him over. One day, I came home and noticed he was freshly shaved. I said, “Oh, you had a shave!” and he proudly rubbed his face and said, “Oh yeah.” It was one of those small but unforgettable moments that meant so much.
The hospice team didn’t just care for my dad—they cared for me, too. They put my heart at ease. They made a difficult season feel bearable, even peaceful. And when the time came for my dad to transition, I felt prepared. I felt peace.
Maurice came for the closing visit, and he gave me the space to speak my heart honestly. I could tell he truly cared. That visit brought so much comfort.
From beginning to end, Alameda Care Hospice felt like family. I will always be grateful. And to anyone searching for a hospice team who will walk this journey with compassion and love—I wholeheartedly recommend Alameda Care Hospice.
